“Back in 2006, I was concerned with the direction that the County Council was taking in not supporting agriculture, land preservation, or conservative values. I also felt that they had failed to remember that they are there to keep an eye on how our tax money is spent in our government and our school system. So I made the decision as a farmer, father, and taxpayer to run for office to get the County Council on a conservative track.
I am seeing some of the same things that motivated me to first run for office 20 years ago. Recently, we’ve seen Councilmembers support the upzoning of numerous properties and the acceleration of development in many areas, particularly along the Route 22 corridor. And despite no change in the county’s tax rates, everyone is seeing their property tax bills increase due to rising state assessments.
The Harford County Charter gives the County Council responsibility for setting both the zoning code and the tax rate. I am greatly concerned that over the next term, the council could be led down the path toward overtaxing and overdevelopment.
And then this week, we have all seen what happens when those who represent us either aren’t paying attention or willfully look the other way as officials abuse their power. Clearly they are more focused on cutting ribbons than on cutting out bureaucratic shenanigans and providing true oversight.
For a number of months, many folks around the county have reached out to me with these same concerns. In light of recent events, and after consideration with my wife and family, I am today officially entering the race to be the Republican nominee for Harford County Council President in 2026.
I encourage all Harford Countians to join our campaign to fight against overtaxing and overdevelopment, to support law enforcement, and to ensure accountability in education. We will have a campaign kickoff event on Tuesday, February 3 from 5pm to 7pm at Hopkins Farm Brewery. Visit BillyBoniface.com for more information. Together we can make sure that the Harford County Council is on the right track.”
